Growing up, I cherished the old family photos tucked away in photo albums in my parents’ attic, the ones that held whole stories in a single frame. Now, as a mother myself, that feeling has only deepened. I know how quickly the seasons of motherhood change, how rarely the person behind the camera ends up in the picture, and how precious it is to be able to look back and see yourself in those moments too.
Elly Rose Photography has been part of my life since 2013, but motherhood reshaped the way I see the world and the way I shoot. It taught me the beauty of the unposed and the imperfect. My daughter once struggled with severe eczema as a baby, and it changed my philosophy entirely. I never want a child to grow up thinking their real skin, their real selves, needed to be edited away. Your story is already beautiful. My work simply honours it.
My approach is slow, gentle, and unobtrusive. Shaped by years of documentary style work in my day job and by the chaos of raising my own little ones. I guide when needed, but never force. With children of my own, I know how to bring out their true character, their spark and their silliness, but also their tenderness. Sessions with me feel calm, natural, and friendly, you won’t even know I’m there with a camera.
What I value most is connection. The way a parent holds their newborn close. The way siblings lean into each other without thinking. The way a family fits together in a way only they can. When you look at your images, I want you to feel that love, to see your story and your bond.
My work is soft, natural, and minimal, always centred on emotion and the quiet details that matter. These photographs aren’t just for now. They’re for the little hands that will one day look back at the people who loved them first.
And if later in life my daughter ever picks up a camera to be “like mummy”, like she already often does, I hope she sees that motherhood didn’t hold me back. It inspired me to create something meaningful, something lasting, something for families just like yours.
